Would you trade your right to vote for paying no taxes?

Posted by on April 3, 2011

Voting is the fundamental way to choose how we’d like things to be. Income taxes are currently the main way to pay for the national choices that we make. Yet in the United States, for instance, roughly 50% of those eligible don’t vote in an average election, and now almost 50% pay no income taxes to support those choices (though most pay some sales, property, Social Security or other taxes). Coincidence? Are these the same people?

Making no judgment on who should be eligible to vote, or who should be obligated to pay taxes…
